You NAILED it!!! It’s a gorgeous plate, and with the incredibly personalized painting of our son’s first home on it makes it a phenomenal heirloom for them – the BEST present! We love it – they’re going to faint. MANY thanks!

Whenever I have a couple days of free time, I like to have some fun with these large plates. But why does "fun" end up being something as extrordinarily complicated as this? It's a mystery to me...

I suppose the delftware genre style of painting's penchant for reaching back to past imagery that has contemporary relevance sort of led me to try my hand at an impression of Rembrandt's only known seascape (1633), titled "The Storm on the Sea of Galilee."

In 1990, this painting was one of 13 works stolen from the Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, MA, and as yet has never been recovered. So this is my delftware-ish homage to all the world's cultural heritage that has been stolen, looted, lost, or robbed.

You’ve always been such a great artist. And I’ve never understood how your mind works. Brilliant at best ☺️

I’m simply in awe. If it’s a mystery it’s a brilliant mystery.

It’s fabulous, I’m a fan.

I especially love the gamba, can I buy that sucker?

This is a beautiful piece! I love the detail and the blending of colors. It would appeal to those that appreciate the theme as well as those of us that simply appreciate the artist's work. Just lovely!

Wow Steve. You are so so incredibly talented. Blown away.

I love this!

I love everything about this piece, Steve.

Thanks for posting this treasure

The simple - and very evident - answer to why “fun” is so “extraordinarily complicated” is that yours is a creative mind coupled with an artist’s ability to see what “it” could become with a couple more strokes and the determination to convert that inner vision to something shareable to the world. Lucky us who are the ones you share with!

Exquisite! Thank you for sharing this. 💙

Really impressive, Steve…. 💫🌟💫

This plate is stunning. Unusual design. Great artistry as always.

Beautiful piece!

I'm in awe... That doesn't happen often.

Absolutely BRILLIANT, my Friend! Your creativity, talent & skill never cease to amaze me!

Lovely creation.

  • The Potter’s Tale
Although I post this bit of autobiography near Halloween, you might not read it until much later. In any event, I suppose I’m just feeling the spirit of the season… Years ago I apprenticed to a potter who had a gigantic, 65 foot long, five chamber “tepugama,” or “split bamboo,” style wood burning kiln (which […]
  • Mega City
We’ll get to the pottery in a moment. First, some observations about the pre-history of Ukraine’s Black Sea region and it’s rich flood plains. This time and place is usually described in terms of aristocratic tribes, lavish tombs, and lots of bloodshed. In the 1970’s, Soviet archeologists looked deeper. They found several so-called “mega-cities” dating […]
